Don't Let Your Gift Cards Gather Dust
With Mother’s Day having just passed and with Father’s Day right around the corner, not to mention it’s coming up on wedding season and graduation season I thought gift cards would make a great topic for this week’s challenge. Did you know that last year we spent more than 35 billion dollars buying gift cards? And that a staggering one third of them are never redeemed…do you know why? People say they forgot about them! Gift cards are typically a last minute gift, but many times they bring with them problems, not the least of which is the person misplacing or forgetting about the card all together. This week let’s all dig out those gift cards we’ve been given over the last few months and schedule time on our calendars to go to the store to redeem them. Oh and check online, you might be able to use yours there. Don’t stop at gift cards, do you have a gift certificate or a store credit you need to use? Now’s the time! You can take it a step further and look at the next two months on your calendar. Do you have an event that you need to bring a gift to? If so decide what you’re going to bring, first of all you might be able to use your store credit or gift card to buy the gift so you don’t have to put any money out of pocket. At the very least you’ll have the gift and not have to buy something (like a gift card) on your way to the event. Consider a themed gift, they are easy to assemble yet look like they took a tremendous amount of effort. You can get e mixing bowl, cookbook, brownie mix and whisk for someone. Or a movie, a bucket or microwave popcorn and a throw blanket. Or how about a bucket, car care items and a spay nozzle for the garden hose.
